Farhana and Eric
Farhana Rahman
Farhana Rahman is a 22-year-old Muslim and recent graduate from the University of Toronto where she specialised in International Relations and Peace and Conflict Studies, with a Language Citation in Modern Standard Arabic.
Farhana’s passion for development and women’s issues led her to spend three months in Bangladesh at the NGO, BRAC, with the organisation's Human Rights and Legal Services Programme where she researched the increasing trends in violations of women's human rights in rural Bangladesh. She has also interned with development organisations and think-tanks including Journalists for Human Rights and The Mosaic Institute for Harnessing Diversity.
Farhana has been fortunate enough to have travelled to several countries since she was young and hopes to continue travelling and learning from each experience. Her ultimate goal is to return to Zambia (or Southern Africa in general) – where she lived for 10 years – to pursue development initiatives.
Eric Farr
Eric Farr grew up in Chelsea, Quebec. Raised by a Bahá’í mother and a Catholic father, Eric grew up in a household where religious diversity and collaboration was a happy everyday reality.
At 24 years old, he is today a devoted member of the Bahá'í Faith, with a deep love and reverence for Jesus Christ.
Eric holds an Honours degree in Religious Studies from McGill University and is completing a Master of Arts in Religious Studies with a concentration in New Testament from the same university. His current research, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, is focused on the portrayal of children and childhood in the literature of early Christianity, especially the Gospel of Mark.
From 2008-2009, he served as the director of Transformation for Peace, a community-building youth empowerment program based on the teachings of the Bahá'í Faith. Eric hopes that his life will be characterised by the constant effort to live by the central tenet of the Bahá'í Faith: the oneness and equality of the entire human family.
