Where's the Net in Canada?

Posted by Lorne Anderson on Tue, 17/04/2012 - 9:54pm

“There has never been a season where it seems like so many people are aware and passionately involved in helping others that are outside of their sphere of influence or community.”

That my friend’s is an absolutely brilliant question! This month the Faiths Act Fellows are spearheading the Where’s the Net? Campaign. The net isn’t lost or anything but has been travelling around the world meeting with different faith communities and social activists to raise awareness and funds to eradicate deaths from Malaria. The Faiths Act initiative of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation has been working dedicatedly this year to reduce deaths from Malaria across the globe and specifically in Sierra Leone.

The Where’s the Net? Campaign has travelled through the Nepal, India and the United States and is now making its way through Canada. So far the net has met with Kingsview Community Church where the Canadian Faiths Act Fellows were inspired by Pastor Jeff Johnston’s inspiring words on selfless service and the need for unity.

“It’s so exciting to sense this swell of awareness and passion to reach around the world with support, with resources, with nets, with water-wells in a way that allows us to say ‘my Existence is bigger than myself and my existence takes on more meaning when it helps someone that I don’t have to help, especially when I don’t receive anything in return...”

The first day of the Nets Canadian tour also included a stop at Niagara Falls as well as McMaster University in Hamilton. Tourists and Students alike were excited to pose with the net, discuss various anti malaria initiatives as well as even contributing financially. Day one of the tour was not only alot of fun, but a meaningful step in the right direction.

Where’s The Net is not just a fancy awareness trip but has a practical application as well. For every 10 new people following the Where’s The Net  Sumoto Chemicals will donate a Mosquito Net to Malaria No More. The Canadian Trip is actively spreading the net to as many people as possible. By taking a photo with the net, liking the pages on Facebook and Twitter and encouraging those around you to do the same you can help inspire a movement that will reduce the deaths caused by a disease that is entirely preventable.

To join the movement please share this blog, join www.faithsbook.com/faithsact and follow and tweet about #WTN? Or #wheresthenet at @FaithsActCanada! Also if you are in Ottawa and are interested in being part of the Where’s The Net Campaign between April 23rd and 24th 2012, please email lorne.anderson@veahavta.org to arrange a meeting!

Thank you for your support and we hope to catch you on the Journey!
