SolidariTEA event seeks to build bridges between Kenyan and Somali young people in Nairobi
Our event featured 30 youths from Somalis and Kenyans. As you may already aware, there are over one million Somalis living in Kenya who often faces with stereotypes of being threat or, to some extent, terrorist. All of this is happening at the time of profound mistrust and suspicion among Kenyans and Somalis. Such fear is in a wide circulation and it spreads almost like fire.
We, under the Somali Forum for Progress, and two Ambassadors for United Religion Initiative (URI) came together and thought about it: We need to bridge these fear by bring together a number of youngsters from Kenyans and Somalis. Our theme is : Talk the Talk Approach. It is very simple. We want them to talk and debate on the table.
We, Ms. Nyambura and Mr. Abdihakim, will be acting as mentors to guide the participants and provide ideas and suggestions. We believe, together with SolidariTea, URI, and all Interfaith Community can play a role to help us achieve our mission.
