The light of the world
How do you see Diwali celebrated where you are? Does your faith have an equivalent to the theme of light or a special approach to the New Year?
A dark room cannot even overcome the brightness of the tiniest candle, for that is the power of light. Light symbolises hope.
In my faith, I believe Jesus is the light of the world; the one who brings hope to a dark world. In scripture it reads, "When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:11-13).
Knowing that even in a world that can be filled with hurt and suffering, I know that I am not alone in this journey; not only so, I have a light to guide me and to live in me. As the light of life, this light does not go out. Even when I do not see the brightest world in front of me right now, I hold on to this light, for that is what hope is: being certain of what is to come—a world without darkness.
