Creating a Buzz: Talking up malaria on the streets of Toronto
This Sunday, April 22nd, the Canadian Faiths Act Fellows will be creating a “buzz” about malaria in the downtown core of Toronto in preparation for World Malaria Day (April 25th). With the help of Chalkmaster Dave, we will be setting up a 5ft x 10ft canvas painting of a 3D mosquito at Dundas Square. Passersby’s will be encouraged to take pictures standing beside this image to help us raise awareness about malaria!
By sending in a photograph, supporters will thereby add their names to the community of people who have signed on to the Faiths Act Declaration; “I commit to working together with people of all faiths to help eliminate deaths from malaria. Together we will demonstrate that faith is a force for good." We are excited to share that for every 10 new signatories to this declaration a lifesaving anti-malarial bed net will be donated by Sumitomo Chemical! If that isn’t incentive enough, everyone who sends in a picture with the 3D mosquito will be entered into a draw to win an iPod shuffle!
The Faiths Act Fellows in Canada are excited to bring the buzz to the streets of Toronto and get the word out about Malaria. We will be providing simple ways for any individual to contribute to the fight against this disease and hopefully inspiring continued action towards advancing the Millennium Development Goals; particularly through interfaith collaboration!
Take a Photo. Win an iPod. Save a life.
