Applications open for Atkin Fellowship, a young leaders programme promoting peace in the Middle East
Are you a young leader interested in promoting peace? Do you live in Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine or Syria?
If so you are eligible to apply for the Atkin fellowship run by the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation and Political Violence (ICSR) aimed at promoting peace and mutual understanding in the Middle East.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to spend four months in London order developing their ideas on how to further peace and mutual understanding in the Middle East through research, debate and constructive dialogue in a neutral political environment.
The Atkin Fellowship is aimed at promoting new thinking among young leaders – typically from government, business, academia, and the media – who occupy positions from which they can shape politics and public opinion in Israel and the Arab world.
Who can apply?
Applicants must be graduates; based in the Middle East at the time of their application; and fluent English speakers. Applications from women are encouraged. For the forthcoming intake beginning in October 2011, they are looking for applicants from Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Syria.
What does the Fellowship include?
Fellows will be based at the ICSR offices at King’s College London and receive a stipend to cover their accommodation, living costs and travel. They are expected to complete a paper dealing with one aspect of the current conflict which will be published by the ICSR! In addition, they will promote information and education about issues in the region by making themselves available for debate and consultation, as well as jointly organise a series of seminars dealing with aspects of the current upheavals in the Middle East
Deadlines
The ICSR is recruiting two Atkin Fellows for the period from 1 October 2011 to 31 January 2012, as well as two Atkin Fellows for the period from 1 February 2012 to 31 May 2012.
